What’s your background? What did you do before owning your ShelfGenie business?
I was an accountant at a property management company.
What made you decide to look into franchising?
I wanted to have flexible hours and to be my own boss.
Why did you select ShelfGenie?
It has a great customer relationship management software, the home office is very supportive, and I believe the product is high quality that everyone should get to be able to improve their kitchen without doing a major renovation.
What sets ShelfGenie apart from some of the other franchises you looked at?
I think the high quality product and the home office support.
What are some of the challenges you face in your franchise business?
The foreign exchange rate and the high duties to import the shelves into Canada. Getting the name and brand out there.
What are your goals for the future?
I want people in Edmonton to know the ShelfGenie like California Closets and to be able to reach $1 million in sales.
What is one piece of advice you’d offer others in your position who are considering a franchise?
That it’s hard work and it will take a lot of patience and a good team to get the franchise going.
What are three personality traits and three occupation-related skills you must possess to run a business effectively?
Personality traits: patience, hard-working, helpful. Occupation-related skills: organized, good computer skills, be an effective leader.
